In August 2010, Mannheim will see its 9th Gaypride - or in local tongue "Christopher Street Day". After a great rebirth of the event in 2009 climaxing in the demonstration parade with 60,000 visitors a team of volunteers is already busy with the preparations for this summer's parade, gala and many other events. Look forward with us to celebrating diversity!

"Die Zukunft ist bunt" is this year's motto and translates to "The Future is Colourful". The future is neither black nor white and least of all brown. This is not only true for many Mannheimers with different ethnical backgrounds, but for all of us.There is not only one way of life but many of them. Politics and society have to accept this fact. Denying diversity and putting only one kind of partnership (e.g. heterosexual mariage) under the states protection is threatening society's consensus.

Even though there is already a possibility for a "civil partnership" for non heterosexual couples in Germany, there are still a lot of differences to a real mariage. A symbolic one being that civil partnerships in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg are not necessarily performed at the register office like mariages but can be outsourced e.g. to the county court

There is still work to be done - let us show our position! Die Zukunft ist bunt.
